Hi everyone! First, let me apologize for not blogging more often here.  This community is very positive, which is so important.  All of you are amazing and supportive - and thank you for that! So, now you know who America's Greatest Otaku is!  (unless you haven't yet watched Episode 8).  I won't say his or her name here just in case you haven't watched it yet - but congrats to the winner!!!! All the contenders were truly amazing.  And last summer was an incredible experience, traveling across…See More

Final episode - and hi from Japan

Hi everyone! I wanted to check in with you.  Little did I know that during the Hulu run of America's Greatest Otaku I would be distracted by a giant earthquake and tsunami tragedy.  Having arrived in Tokyo on March 9 - two days before the quake - the last thing I expected was this.  But while I have been so busy up in Tohoku (Miyagi) with my volunteer aid efforts, I have been working with Dice and the team via the Internet to finish the season finale.   Finally, we are almost complete - and…See More

Earthquake in Japan

Everyone, I just arrived in Tokyo 2 days ago - just in time for the enormous earthquake that happened earlier today.  My apartment rattled, rolled and kept shaking for what seemed like forever.  Very, very scary.  We've all been on Twitter and Facebook and skype - the cell phones aren't working!   People are so nice to each other - helping out.  Hotels are letting people all stay there because the trains are stopped and even Apple is giving away free iPhone charges for people.  But Tokyo has it…See More

Haters

Hey everyone! I don't know about you guys, but I noticed there are some very negative haters posting comments on Hulu or Twitter, etc. I'm sure all of you have also experienced negativity from haters, either at school or elsewhere.  It's emotionally draining - and depressing - but the best thing to do is stay positive.  Be yourself.  Believe in who you are, your passion and what makes you happy - that will give you strength. For me, I love Japan.  I love the fact that I brought manga to…See More

Hisashiburi!!

Hey everyone! It's been almost 6 months now since the TOKYOPOP Tour ended - those 7 weeks were when we toured America and filmed America's Greatest Otaku.  Since that time, we've been in the edit bay working hard to go through all the footage and come up with hopefully a show everyone can enjoy and be proud of. We're still scrambling to finish the episodes in time.  There are 8 total episodes and we've got 4 "in the can."  We're almost done with Episode 5.  Dice is working his butt off on 5 and…See More

Otaku Positivity

Hi everyone! As we get closer to the tour start date, and the prep-work intensifies, I am meeting with the HQ Crew and hearing about their experiences communicating with various fans from all over. They are experiencing fandom as part of TOKYOPOP for the first time, and that means they have encountered something we "old-timers" have seen many times before: otaku negativity.I'd like to write about otaku negativity for a few lines, but not for long enough to dwell on it. As all of you know, there…See More

The "Otaku Six"

Everyone,As you probably know by now, today was the day the "Otaku Six" were chosen. Probably the most difficult thing about today for me was thinking about everyone else - how hard you've worked, how much passion and energy I've felt from you, how vibrant of a community you've built up on this site. I really don't want that to be lost. You guys are awesome - I really hope I can meet each and every one of you this summer during the Tour. Dice and I have been working all day...

Hi guys! Just a quick update so you know what's up with us. Now that I'm back in LA I've been working with Dice all day on pre-production for the tour and America's Greatest Otaku show. There's so much stuff to prepare and go over - and only a couple of us to do it. So, tons to juggle.(although I did get in a little fun - went to the concert of old-timer's band The Eagles last night!)Tomorrow morning is the big casting meeting. We're going over everyone one last time and will then make a round…See More

I love the show I think its great! An anime reality show is like a dream come true because its unique from watching your average MTV REAL WORLD, or Road Rules. BTW lol I was at Otakon 2010 and was in your FRED WATER Video. lol I wanted to win that bottle of Fred Water at the giveaway table because of how hot it was in Baltimore. lol
